SID AND DOT WRIGHT, OVER 60 YEARS OF TOGETHERNESS AND ENTERTAINMENT!
Sid and Dot Wright were both born in the east end of London. When Dot’s mother died, she went to live with her godmother, in the area where Sid was living at that time. Sid had a semi professional band in which Dot’s second cousin Ron played double bass. The group used to rehearse in different ones houses, and sometimes they came to the house where Dot was living, and that is how they met each other 62 years ago!
Sid och Dot Wright föddes båda på East End i London. När Dots mamma dog, flyttade hon till sin gudmor, som bodde i samma stadsdel som Sid bodde i just då. Sid hade ett halvprofessionellt band, där Dots kusins son Ron spelade bas. Gruppen brukade repetera i varandras hem, och ibland kom dom dit Dot bodde, och det var så dom möttes 62 år sedan!
Sid did not like fighting when he was little, so he had a girl in the same house as him, who use to fight all his battles. Dot was the tomboy so she used to fight all the kids battles – “if he had been where I was I would have fought all his battles, but I did not know him then,” she says with a laugh.

They both went to ordinary primary school. Sid won a scholarship for outstanding musical ability when he was 14, but he did not really want to stay at school, so he never took it up.
Dot’s parents were poor and could not afford any special school for her, and she never really knew her father, he died before she was old enough to know him, and her mother could not afford a special school, as much as her daughter loved dancing.
There was a dancing school though along the road where they lived, and Dot use to go there and look through the crack of the door, and learn all the routines. Then she had her own dancing school out in the street, for free for all the kids that, like her, could not afford to go to dancing school,.
A lady once passed when the kids were rehearsing in the street, and she asked them - “Do you go to Ivy’s dancing school” -“No” Dot answered. “But that is one of her dancing routines” the lady replayed. “She must have copied it from me” Dot quickly retorted. She was a cocky kid. She was the boss.
